Requirement:

This program is suitable for those who show a genuine keenness for conservation and wildlife, and are eager to give back. You do not need to have any qualifications, but must be above 18 years of age and deem your-self to be physically fit and healthy as you will have to walk long distances and participate in physical activi-ties. Volunteers must have a comprehensive understanding of the English Language. This program is also suitable for and may be beneficial for those who are studying various fields such as veterinary science, envi-ronmental studies, conservation, botany, animal behavior etc.

Description:

The Nakavango Volunteer Program forms part of the Nakavango Trust. The Trust aims at maintaining the reserve and protecting all wildlife species within it. The program will focus on gathering information, primarily on the ecological role that each animal plays within the reserve. As a volunteer you will play a vital role in a team that will assist the Game Reserve Staff and Guides in the protection and development of the wildlife heritage, here in Zimbabwe. Being a part of this program will enable you to experience the African bush in a very special and unique way as you spend each day out on the Reserve being actively involved in a number of conservation activities and taking in local insight and knowledge on the various animal, plant and bird species that inhabit the Reserve. You will also be responsible for the collection and processing of data that is crucial to the sustainability of the reserve. You will also be part of, and aid local schools on conservation education in the surrounding Victoria Falls area, giving you an insight into the community, as well as assisting in the future of the surrounding local environment.

Other Information:

Due to the nature of the animals and the weather, and other such influences, the programme will remain very flexible. Although a general programme is laid out over a two week period, it is likely to change at any one time. Priority comes in the form of the animals, and the well being of the reserve. You may be called out to assist the General Game Park manager in the removal of a snare, for example, at anytime of the day or night. The programme has been designed not only to collect valuable data, and contribute to the conservation of the reserve, but to also remain enjoyable and an unique experience that you will carry with you for a life time. You will leave feeling fulfilled.
